153 RS’s braved the winter forecast to compete at the Crewsaver RS End of Season Championships at Datchet last weekend.
Many of the regular faces across the fleets were present, along with a splattering of returning oldies wondering where everyone of their age had gone since they last found their boat! Everyone from the Fevas through to the 800s were present, and it was the 51 boat Feva class that showed up in the greatest numbers.
However luckily for the club’s licence, only those the fairer side of 18 were invited to the black tie party, on Saturday night, where RS sailors new and old ate, danced (to varying degrees of ability) and enjoyed a few rum and cokes until the curtain came down.
Those sailors who took an early trip home on Sunday after arriving to a glassy reservoir missed out on a further 3 races in a surprisingly good breeze, interspersed by a period of silence to mark Remembrance Day, impeccably observed by all the fleets.
The final prizes of the season went to Robbie and Alex King in the Fevas, Andy Shaw and Pippa Horne in the 200s, Harry McVicar in the 300s, Nick Craig and Tobytastic Lewis in the 400s, Peter and James Curtis in the 500s, Giles Peckham in the 100s, Seb Hansell in the 600s, Alex Young in the 700s, and Roger Phillips and Will Crocker in the 800s.
And so that brings to an end the 18th season of RS sailing – time to start planning that 21st birthday party?!
