   Hi All

Carnac is looking very a popular event next month with 15 already entered, but Heather is already looking at 2016 and has a choice of venues for us,both for the end of July.  These are to return to Garda as as we did in 2014 and 2012 with hopefully the usual good breeze and race management or to travel to Travemunder Woche which is a major regatta of dinghies and small keelboats. Last year Travemunde regattra hosted fleets of Inter. 14s for their europeans, laser Radials, Open Bics Worlds, 420 Worlds and Nacra 17, Contender and 505 German Nationals  plus other classes.  Details of this years regatta are  http://www.travemuender-woche.com/en/noticeofrace/index.html  which also gives details of the different sailing and boat park areas.

The 400s and 800s are already booked into Garda and the 200s and Aeros are booked into Travemunder for the same week so which would the 100s like to do?

I personally think that we should try Travemunde as the atmosphere around the whole event is really great and we should encourage the northern european boats to join in events, but what do the rest of the fleet think!
Please post your replies on the forum for everyone to see, and Heather Chipperfield and myself will be at the Sprints at Rutland next weekend so you can bend our ears then.
Regards and hope you see lots of you Rutland and Carnac

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the post.
I can't cant speak for all the Aussie sailors, but I do know a resonable amount of Aussie RS sailors plan on making the trip next year because they were under the impression the event is at Garda.

It is such a beautiful location that many Australian sailors dream to sail at.  Some of the RS sailors that are planning on making the trip next year is because they want to live that dream and for others that have sail at the venue, we cant wait to return.

As mentioned I cant speak for all Aussies but I know that's the feeling of a number of them.

Cheers
Dave

I'm one of the rare people it seems who doesn't particularly like Garda and would prefer to go to somewhere new so Travemunde would be my choice

i prefer any Great Italian Lake over Travemunde. It is double the distance for me (493 km vs 1070 km) but it is also better climate, better food and a priceless view.

Only ~400km difference for me, 2160 vs 1740 :-)

I have been to Garda a few times. It is a great place to sail, with pretty consistent breeze, warm weather and good food and drink. However the sailing is rather processional.

Travemunde would be different. A large sailing regatta with different conditions and less processional sailing.

I would be happy with either, although I do like sailing somewhere warm!

David

PS Now entered Sprints. A great event and good wind forecast. A fantastic event to hone your boat handling skills. It was one of the best events on the circuit last year. It would be great to see more boats there!!

I am torn! I would prefer Garda, but the 200s are going to Travemunde, so I have to vote for there, or I'll be in big trouble - again....

For me, predictably, I'd prefer whichever venue is the windiest.

If both likely to be similar, then Travemunde as I've no idea where it is so am sure I've not been there before.

Hello Guys,

funny how life goes, I will be living in Germany for most of 2016, at about the same distance from Riva and Travelmunde. I am not sure however, whether I'll be able to attend the event in any of the two places. Just in case, maybe I'd like to try Travelmunde, it's been an olympic venue if I'm not wrong, should be more tactical and close to both Luebeck and Hamburg, which are both interesting places. Maybe that's because I can go to Riva any time I like. So in the end, I think it's up to you in the North, to decide whichever place would attract more people.

Just last Saturday I saw people from the Baltic sailing at my club... maybe that's a clue that South is the way to go?

I've not been much help, I guess.

See you in Carnac!

Alberto

AFAIK Travemunde is not Olympic.  Wikipedia:
"For each class seven races were scheduled from 29 August 1972 to 8 September 1972 of the coast of Kiel-Schilksee in the Bay of Kiel. Kiel hosted the Olympic sailing competitions for the second time, having previously done so during the 1936 Summer Olympics."

Having had a chat with a few people over the weekend and then checked up about Travemunder on the net, it dose sound a great place to go. I'm sure it was in Yachts and Yachtings as one of the top 10 events to sail.. Anyway Trav! Gets my vote

Chatting to Mark, Huw and Greg at the Sprints (last men standing), it occurred to me that I have actually sailed RSs at both Travemunde and Garda, so here are my thoughts.

Garda is without doubt one of the best sailing venues in the world, and the all-classes Eurocup one of the most enjoyable events possible. However, the Eurocup is splitting due to the desire of some classes to go off on their own, and the RS100 has tried and not succeeded in getting a big turnout on its own at Garda. So perhaps we should try somewhere else, if only to take a break from that cruel one-sided beat hiking out to the cliffs.

Travemunde Week is a fantastic event to be part of - with over 700 entries it is more the scale of Cork or Cowes Week than any normal dinghy event. The organisation is immaculate both on and off the water, and the race village is one of northern Europe's key party attractions, for very good reason. The weather is less predictable than further south, but we had great sailing in conditions from light breeze to strong winds with great rolling waves in 2007. The downside is that courses can be some way offshore to accommodate the number of boats and wind directions, but the race management and safety cover was excellent. The town is attractive, there is loads of accomodation and camping for all budgets, and the race village allows you to choose any food or beverage from the stalls and then sit with all your friends and soak in the atmosphere.

So my vote goes for Travemunde, because we probably all need a change and would love to encourage some new European faces to come and join us. For GBR sailors it is 500 (flat) miles from Calais instead of 800 over the Alps, and even for our Italian friends I am informed that heading North against the prevailing flow of German tourists is very manageable.

I hope that helps. Giles

Travemünde for me please!

I really enjoyed the trip to Como, will enjoy the trip to Carnac now in May, and would have enjoyed the trip to Australia, but it would be nice to sail a bit closer to home in Stockholm.

For a change, it would be nice to sail in the Baltic (it's not that cold ;)

Thanks I will add to the shopping list.

I also need to replace kite halyard deck blocks. Do people normally go with selden again or swap to something else?
