Found this really good for repairing the spinnaker chute where the downhaul cut grooves into it.

Looks like a great product. I guess you used the black version.
Do you varnish afterwards or leave with natural finish?
Is it harder than the original epoxy and therefore doesn’t wear as much after filling?

I used black gelcoat with silica mixed in to harden it.  I t also thickened it to make it easier to apply.
It was about 4 years ago and there are no grooves.

Hi Mark

As a non-technical person, please could you tell me how to mix the silica and gelcoat for chute groove repair? A google search gives many types of silica... which one should I get? And what ratio to mix with gelcoat?

Many thanks

Hi Simon
I used colloidal silica filler available from west or SP.  I mixed up the gelcoat with the catalyst as normal wetted the area out and quickly added the silica to thicken it so it acted like peanut butter and applied. You have not got long so make sure you get every thing ready and to hand.

the silica means it does not dry to quite the same colour so try to keep it to just were it is needed and it is also much harder than the other gelcoat so try and reduce the amount of sanding back
