Recently I've been having an odd one and it's bloody frustrating as it led to a easy swim at the weekend. In around 18 plus I cannot get the kite to fill and drive I'm fully hiked and I try to head up but it just flogs and when I bare away it seems to fill from behind? Does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong. My thoughts are I might need to eat more pies but I'm not sure
Cheers guys

This does should a bit odd. How much do you weigh?

Is the kicker completely eased? An over-powered main won't help - so don't be afraid to under sheet it a bit if it helps get the kite into a setting equilibrium. Once you get some speed on the loads should ease a bit and you should be able to get both sails set and taking you fast and low as you build the apparent.

Hi Sean. Sometimes I get this when it's very windy say 27kts plus and you end up sailing a bit too deep so the kite ends up hiding behind the main and doing all sorts of odd things, then when you try to bring the boat up a bit you end up fighting the kite as it starts to get clean air, I'v found by trying to build up more boat speed you can ease the boat on to a better angle and the kite will fill and start to work..... O! Just seen Clive has beaten me to it.... I agree, boat speed!

That's odd, as Clive doesn't usually unpack his boat in anything around 20 knots and all I can remember of last Sunday in around that wind strength is watching Giles swim and take chunks out of his shins!

Hi Sean
Last Sunday  had me hiding the kite behind the main, as the 20 knots in winter seems to have the same force as 25 knots at Garda in 30 degrees C.  I will leave Clive to disagree, but perhaps his 45 knot wind was just a load of hot air!
