Hi,

Some more RS100 newbie questions :-)

My boat show the usual wear in the deck area where the bowsprit slides in and out (gel coat rubbed off). I am thinking of applying some chafe tape on the gel coat to prevent further wear.

Have someone experience with the PROtect chafe tape in this area ?
If yes - did you use 250micron or 500micron tape ?
Any other solution ?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Michele (the Italian dealer) once told me some people use the soft part of velcro tape in this area. I just use dry teflon lubricant almost every time I go out (I also spray the chute mouth and gennaker patches). I am also interested in the use of chafe tape if anybody has some experience (maybe also for the chute mouth?).
By the way, where do you sail? If you ever come to Lake Garda, I'd be happy to meet you (sorry for the OT).
Bye,
Alberto

I have to say that I haven't come across anyone using tape in the bowsprit exit hole. All others seem to do is use dry lube in the hole.

We have an open meeting at Grafham this weekend so will see what others say and let you know after the weekend.

Hi David,
Looking forward to the outcome of your chafe tape "survey".
Dry lubricate seems the easiest way to reduce friction in this area, but not sure if it can prevent the gelcoat wear over time (see pic).  I will contact the PROtect guys and ask for their recommendation.
Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Alberto,
I am sailing on the Moehne Reservoir / Germany (Google Maps will help).

I have tested it with PROtect chafe tape 250micron. Tape don't work in this place because the slot between the pole and deck becomes to tight - so back to dry Teflon lubricant ...

I did ask a couple of people at the Winter Champs at Grafham. Nobody has ever come across using this tape in the pole hole. I guess you just confirmed why! Keep using the lube, which is what everyone else does.
