This may be a silly question, but I found this bit of foam under the foredeck.  Where does it go and how should it be secured?

Ah, now that is a devil, but it has to be fixed or you will have big kite launching problems

It fills the gap where the chute mouth rolls around from the foredeck and turns aft. It should be glued in place. Without it, the kite bunches up and refuses to come out to play. The tricky bit is that the glue needs to go on the upper face of the roll, under the foredeck.

I would drop Rob a line at RS - I cannot remember precisely what I did with the sock, but I do remember the only way to get the glue where it was needed was by putting evostick on my fingers to use as applicators. Endless fun picking the stuff off afterwards (or miss out and put a latex glove on...)

Thanks for the information Clive.  I'll have a better look tomorrow and contact Rob on Monday.  Interestingly there is no sign of glue on the foam.

I think Clive's memory might be influenced by the glue experience!

The bottom lip of the chute mouth return has a strip of Velcro glued on. If that's still there, no glue is needed.

The kite bag has a matching bit of Velcro that sits on top and the foam is jammed in to make doubly sure it doesn't get pulled away.

So rather like the attached sketch?  I've had a look and there doesn't appear to be any Velcro on the boat whereas there is on the sock so it looks like I'll have to get the Evostik out.  I think I'll double check with Rob before I do so.

Your sketch is dead right!

The upturned lip isn't very smooth and it's difficult to get at so cleaning off any remaining glue isn't easy.

Good luck!

Thanks.  That's good news.  I can't feel any glue on the boat so I think I'll still have a word with Rob at RS before launching into a gluefest.

Make sure you push it all the way over to the left/port side of the boat. Otherwise you won't be able to drop the kite fully as it'll create a lip and block the pulley/block as moves along the foredeck.

Took me a while to figure this one out!

Hannah, is it the sock that needs pushing fully to the port side to make space for the block to move?

I've spoken with Rob this morning and he's recommended Hypabond as being the bees knees for sticking the Velcro on.  It's the same adhesive as for the slot gasket.  So I've ordered the Hypabond and I'll have a high old time getting stuck in on Thursday.

Not the sock, the foam block. It should butt up hard against the lip at the front of the foredeck, but be an inch or two narrower. That inch or so is needed for the halyard and pulley to move along freely. If it moves to the right/starboard of the boat then the pulley will get stuck as you drop the spinnaker and you'll end up with a big flower of a spinnaker at the front of the boat!

Ah, that makes sense.  Thanks.
